North Union High School said goodbye to its class of 2021 last weekend.
Listed below are four valedictorians and three salutatorians, who were part of the ceremony.
Calvin Harvey is the son of Rodger Harvey and Julie Harvey. He received the Academic Honors Diploma, Franklin B. Walter Award (North Union), Honda-Ohio State Partnership STRM Award. His plans after graduation are to attend The Ohio State University
Jordyn Hoffman is the daughter of Chad and Jodi Hoffman. During her high school career, she was voted homecoming queen in 2020, was named to the volleyball 1st team CBC, 1st team All District and All-Ohio Team. Her basketball accolades include 1st team CBC, 2nd team All District, Honorable Mention All-Ohio, team-Offensive Player of the Year. She was on students council her freshman, sophomore, junior year and senior year, served as secretary; on the homecoming court her senior year; Students of Service, three years; Student Advisory Board her sophomore year as class representative; on the Richwood Junior Fair Board three years (on executive committee); middle school peer collaborator junior and senior year as math tutor; club volleyball Hawks, four years, captain two years; student pep section leader one year, and a Sunday school teacher’s aide at the Fulton Creek Friends Church. Scholarships she received include Academic Honors Diploma, Burnside/Imbody/Fish Scholarship, Dan B. Kyle Memorial Scholarship, Erin Y. James Memorial Scholarship, Memorial Hospital Medical Staff, Central District Volleyball Coaches Association Scholarship, Presidential Scholarship Capital University. Her plans are to attend Capital University to major in nursing and play volleyball.
Kaylee Smith is the daughter of Anthony and Julie Smith. Her awards and honors in FFA-Star Green Hand Award (freshman), Creek Speaking (3rd in state freshman), Job Interview (freshman, 2nd in district, junior), on Agronomy team (2nd team in the state, 3rd in state individually, freshman, 1st in state as team and as individual, sophomore, 1st in nation as team, 3rd individually, junior); Parliamentary Procedure (districts as team, sophomore) and vice president of chapter. She received Zonta Outstanding Young Woman Award, McElheny Family Endowment (English, freshman and sophomore), Student of the Month-3 times), gold award (Outstanding Achievement Award) Honors English 3 and Financial Foundations, Industrial Technology 2 and Agriculture Education Capstone. She also received the Ohio State University and Marion Technical College High School Math Challenge Superior award. Extra-curriculars include Track-3 varsity letters, conference special mention runner; Bowling-Conference Sportsmanship Award, varsity letter, Star Performer Athlete Award; Cross Country-3 varsity letters, Conference Second Team Award, team captain. She received Academic Honors Diploma, Richwood Garden Club Scholarship, Search and Development Scholarship, Union County Master Gardeners Scholarship. She plans to attend Pen State University and study Biological Engineering.
Sadie Spriggs is the daughter of Steve and Amy Spriggs. Her awards and honors include Academic Excellence in Spanish 4, Academic Excellence in Physics, McElheny Award (English), Student Athlete of the Year Award, Honors Diploma and Senior Leadership Award. Her extra-curriculars include being a member of student council, Students of Service, FFA, National Honors Society, Spanish Club, Soccer Club, Track and Field and Basketball. She received the Scotts Miracle Grow Scholarship, Dan B. Kyle Memorial Scholarship, Conner Ann Miller Memorial Scholarship, Seiter Family Memorial Scholarship, Byhalia-York Alumni/Janet Bliss Markin Memorial Scholarship, Kevin Smith Scholarship, and the Richwood Area Business Association Scholarship. She plans to attend Miami University for Business.
Three senior students earned Salutatorian honors. The first student is Caleb Michael Isler, who is the son of Kevin and Teresa Isler. His awards/honors include Ohio Academic Honors diploma, Outstanding Spanish 1, Outstanding Spanish 3, Outstanding Honors Algebra 2,Outstanding Ag-Science 3,American Legion Buckeye Boys State delegate, Marion Technical College Dean’s List (fall 2020), North Union Academic Excellence Award (4 years), All A Honor Roll (15 out of 16 quarters); FFA-Chapter Star Green Hand Award, State FFA Degree, NU Chapter 110% Award, Reporter’s Book (gold rating), 6th place individual at state competition on Green Hand quiz CDE and 5th place as team; Athletic honors/awards-MOAC Scholar Athlete, CBD Scholar Athlete (3 years), OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award, Wendy’s High School Heisman School Winner, NU Athletics 12-point, 20-point and 3o-point awards. Extra-curriculars include FFA Chapter vice president and chapter reporter, Green Hand quiz CDE team (6th place individual at state and 5th place as team), Food Service CDE teams, Ag Sales CDE teams and General Livestock CDE teams; Cross Country-varsity (2 years), CBD All-Conference Sportsmanship Award; Wrestling- varsity (4 years), team captain (2 years), 2018 Sectional Champions, 2019 Sectional Runner-Up, District Qualifier *3 years) CDWCA Central District D2/D3 Honorable Mention, NU Wildcat Spirit Award; Track-varsity (4 years) CBD All-Conference Honorable Mention in 3200 Meter Relay, NU Track Coach’s Award. He received Academic Honors Diploma, Bob and Eula Jean Davis Memorial Scholarship, Brittany Crabtree Memorial Scholarship, Burnside/Imbody/Fish Scholarship, Donald and Dorothy Parrott Memorial Scholarship, Elks MVS Scholarship, Jan and Larry Dunn Scholarship, Joshua O’Reilly Memorial Scholarship, Logan Krebehenne Memorial Scholarship, Marion Elks Lodge No. 32 Scholarship, Richwood Bank-4H Scholarship, Richwood-North Union Alumni Scholarship, Riverside Native Trees and Nursery Scholarship, Union County Retired Teachers Association Scholarship, Warner-Houk Memorial Scholarship. His plans include attending Bowling Green State University majoring in Integrated Science Education.
Christian Allen Isler is also the son of Kevin and Teresa Isler. His academic honors and awards include Ohio Academic Honors Diploma, Outstanding Ag-Education 3/FFA Student, NU Academic Excellence Awards (4 years) on the All A Honor Roll; FFA-Chapter Star Green Hand Award, State FFA Degree, NU Chapter Most Dependable Award, Treasurer’s book gold rating (2 years),5th place team at state competition on Green Hand Quiz CDE. Athletic honors include VFW Student Athlete of the Year, MOAC Scholar Athlete, CBC Scholar Athlete (3 years) NU Athletic Department 12-point Award; was FFA Chapter treasurer (2 years) 5th place on Green Hand Quiz CDE team, Food Science CDE teams and Ag Sales CDE teams; Cross County-varsity 94 years) 2018 CBC champions, CBC All conference Second Team, 2020; Baseball-varsity, CBC All-conference Sportsmanship Award, 2021, National Honor Society, 4-H club president, vice president, treasurer, Students of Service, In The Know Quiz Bowl team, Junior fair Board (4 years), Union County Safety Town volunteer, Union County 4-H Cloverbuds volunteer, Richwood Independent Fair participants (9 years) won multiple 1st place skill-a-thon and livestock classes, Reserve Champion Market Goat, Reserve Champion Market Barrow, Showman of Showmen in goats, 2018 Richwood Junior Fair king. He plans to attend Bowling Green State University and major in Business Finance.
