Children ages 5-11 can now receive their COVID-19 vaccines in Union County.
The Union County Health Department began scheduling vaccination appointments for 5- to 11-year-olds Wednesday evening.
Vaccination clinics for children in this age group will begin on Nov. 8 and will continue throughout November and December. Several clinic offerings will be available each week.
Vaccination will be by appointment and a parent or legal guardian must accompany the child.
Appointments can be booked online at www.uchdclinic.org. Those scheduling an appointment for a child should be sure to select the “Union County Health Department PEDIATRIC” option in the dropdown menu.
Those without reliable internet or access to a computer can schedule an appointment by calling (937) 642-2053.
On Tuesday, The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended use of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine pediatric formulation for children ages 5-11 following a thorough review of the vaccine’s safety and effectiveness, according to UCHD.
The CDC recommendation followed an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11 is administered as a two-dose primary series, three weeks apart, but is a lower dose than that used for individuals 12 years of age and older.
