HASTINGS
––––
A deputy from the Union County Sheriff’s Office was sent to the hospital Tuesday after responding to a domestic dispute on Hinton Mill Road.
According to a release from the Union County Sheriff’s Office, at 4:03 p.m., deputies responded to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife at a home on Hinton Mill Road. The parties were successfully separated.
At 5:44 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received another call from the wife claiming the husband, Cameron R. Hastings, 31, of Marysville, was threatening suicide.
Deputies returned to the scene and found Hastings under the influence of alcohol.
“This was all being dealt with as a mental health crisis,” said Sheriff Jamie Patton.
Deputies tried to convince Hastings to go to a medical facility for evaluation.
“He was not up for that,” Patton said.
A struggle ensued and deputy Kelly Nawman sustained a cut to her face and a bruise to the left eye.
Patton said that after being apprehended, Hastings inflicted injuries on himself in a squad car using the interior cage. Patton said he was “in crisis” in the rear of the cruiser.
According to the release, both Hastings and Nawman were taken to Memorial Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Hastings was arrested for obstructing official business and taken to Tri-County Regional Jail.
Hastings appeared in Marysville Municipal Court this morning. Bond was set at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 29, 2018.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by Marysville Police and Fire.
“The incident remains under investigation,” reads the release.
