Those who are 65 and older will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine beginning this week.
The Union County Health Department will hold its weekly vaccine clinic Friday.
Those looking to make an appointment can access the online scheduler at www.uchdclinic.org starting at 3 p.m. today.
Individuals without a computer or access to the internet may call the health department at (937) 642-2053 once the scheduling window opens for help making an appointment.
Union County Senior Services is also assisting residents over the phone at (937) 644-1010 option 5.
However, scheduling online is the preferred method. UCHD officials encouraged family members and friends to help eligible individuals to make an appointment via the website listed above.
“Please note that we are taking as many calls as we can, but there is a substantial demand and limited vaccine,” a statement from UCHD included.
Along with the health department, there are now two additional COVID-19 vaccine providers in Union County.
The Ohio Department of Health recently added Walgreens Pharmacy in Marysville to its vaccine provider list. Kroger Pharmacy is also administering the shots.
Both pharmacies use an online portal to schedule appointments.
To see available times and schedule an appointment at Walgreens, those interested should visit https://www.walgreens.com/findcare/vaccination/covid-19?ban=covid_vaccine_landing_schedule.
Available appointments at Kroger Pharmacy are listed at https://www.kroger.com/rx/guest/get-vaccinated.
UCHD noted that those who are 65 and older “will continue to be eligible for vaccination for several more weeks.”
The health department encouraged those who are unable to make an appointment to continue trying and to seek options at pharmacies, as well.
According to the Ohio Department of Health, as of Tuesday 8.77% of Union County residents, or 5,172 people, have received at least the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
The local health department has administered approximately 2,000 doses to date.
This week, approximately 500 people who are 80 and older will receive their second dose to complete the vaccine.
