Surveillance footage from a Thursday morning car theft revealed new information on the suspects and vehicles stolen.
Video from the Coughlin Chrysler Marysville dealership shows the suspects arriving at the scene at 3:25 a.m. Thursday in a new-model, white Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The vehicle is in view of security cameras for less than 30 seconds before driving around the side of a building, out of the camera’s line of sight.
Another camera angle shows the suspects driving off the lot nearly two hours later, at 5:20 a.m.
A blue vehicle idles in the driveway of the lot for about 10 seconds before turning onto Watkins Road toward Delaware Avenue.
As the blue vehicle leaves, another dark-colored vehicle pulls to the end of the driveway.
The vehicle is partially obscured by a tree, but it appears the door opens and the driver is out of the vehicle for at least ten seconds. It is unclear if there is more than one person in the vehicle at the time or if the driver switched seats with a passenger.
As the stolen vehicle turns onto Watkins Road, in the same path of the blue vehicle, it is closely followed by the white Jeep.
All three vehicles drive off the lot in less than one minute.
Though the portions of the footage provided by the Marysville Division of Police show only two vehicles, Deputy Chief Tony Brooks said three cars were stolen.
Brooks said a gray 2017 Dodge Charger Hellcat, blue 2021 Dodge Charger Scat Pack and a maroon 2021 Dodge Challenger Scat Pack were stolen from the dealership.
The cars were valued at $59,000, $49,000 and $50,000, respectively.
He said each vehicle was stolen from the showroom, apparently driven through the glass doors.
Brooks said the thieves used the keys for each vehicle, rather than hot-wiring them. He noted that the keys were not kept with the vehicles, but said he could not share further information.
He also declined to share more information as to how the thieves avoided setting off the alarm system.
Brooks said other portions of the surveillance video show two individuals at scene. He noted that MPD is still investigating how many people were involved in the crime.
He said he is “not positive” what route the thieves went after the vehicles were driven off the lot.
“The best we can tell is Delaware Avenue,” Brooks said, adding they are uncertain from that point.
He said MPD has “more of an account” since the crime initially occurred and are continuing to interview employees of Coughlin Chrysler Marysville.
Brooks said police are investigating whether the recent crime is tied to a November theft in which three vehicles were driven through the showroom doors at C & N Motor Cars, located next to Coughlin.
“It’s obviously the same M.O. from the previous dealership,” he said.
