Residents who received two water bills from the City of Marysville don’t need to worry – officials say it was a mistake.
At Monday night’s city council meeting, council-person Nevin Taylor asked Finance Director Justin Nahvi why residents received two utility bills in the mail.
Nahvi said the mistake was the result of the city’s transition from one billing service to another. For years, the city has used a company named RevSpring to print its bills and post them online. The city is currently transitioning to Huntington Bank to provide bill printing.
RevSpring, which is now only providing its online services to the city, accidentally printed the bills as well. Because of that, residents received a bill from both Huntington and RevSpring.
Nahvi said he expected RevSpring would make the error, as the city has had problems with them in the past.
“This is part of the reason we’re looking to transition away from that company,” Nahvi said in an interview.
Nahvi said the city is continuing to watch RevSpring to make sure the mistake doesn’t happen again. He said the city notified the company that it doesn’t plan to pay them for the erroneous printing, to which RevSpring agreed.
“So it just cost, unfortunately, some confusion for our customers,” Nahvi said.
Nahvi said next year, the city hopes to start handling all of its online bill posting in-house, which would allow officials to completely drop RevSpring.
Council has officially begun its search for a replacement for councilperson Tracy Richardson.
Richardson, who recently won her bid for District 86 of the Ohio House of Representatives, said she sent in her resignation on Monday, to be effective Dec. 31.
Mayor J.R. Rausch said they’re taking applications for her seat through Dec. 31. Applications need to include a letter of intent and resume.
Interviews will be conducted during an executive session Jan. 7, during a scheduled council work session. After that, council will return to regular session and make its selection.
“That’s the game plan right now,” Rausch said.

-Council held its third and final reading of the 2019 budget. Officials said they were happy with the budgeting process, and pleased that all members had several chances to review the budget.
-Taylor noted that lineup for this year’s Christmas Parade is at Marysville High School beginning at 12:30 p.m. He said those who need help during lineup can call the Marysville Elks phone number at 937-642-4631.
He said those bringing candy should try to hand it out, rather than throw it to the crowd. He said those who plan on throwing should choose candy that will make it to the curb.
“We do not want kids in the street whatsoever,” Taylor said. “The last time we had a candy event during a parade, it was pretty ugly.”
