Ames F. “Doc” Allen, DVM, 76, of Plain City, died peacefully Tuesday morning, Feb. 26, 2019, at his residence after a brief illness.
He graduated from the Ohio State Veterinary College in 1968 and Mount Union College in 1963. He started working at the Ohio State Veterinary Clinic and went to Orville for his first practice. Since 1973, he has been the owner of Pleasant Valley Veterinary Hospital in Plain City and Allen Time Farms, LLC.
He was a member of the American Veterinary Medicine Association and Ohio Veterinary Medicine Association. He was a former director and past president of the Belgian Draft Horse Corporation of America, and member of the Eastern States Draft Horse Sales and Ohio Belgian Breeders Association.
He was born June 6, 1942, in Salem, to the late Alton D. and Mary E. (Iler) Allen. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Shirley A. (Berry) Allen, whom he married June 16, 1967, and who died Feb. 14, 2018.
He is survived by his sons, Jon Allen and Brian (Kimberly) Allen; grandchildren, Jacob Ames Allen, Joseph Randall Allen, Eveline Anne Allen and Wilson Fortner Allen; and sisters, Sally (Paul) Olexia and Patricia (George) Dustman.
The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., (Route 161 W.), Plain City. A funeral will follow immediately at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Byhalia Cemetery, in Byhalia.
