Barbara B. (Brazelton) Buchheit Bootes, 90, of Marysville and formerly of Columbus, died peacefully Sunday morning, Sept. 2, 2018, at Brookdale of Marysville.
A woman of strong faith, she was a dedicated member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Columbus, where she sang in the choir and directed the children’s choir along with various other activities. She enjoyed art, listening to music and traveling. Most of all, she loved her time spent with her family.
A devoted wife and loving mother, she was a wonderful homemaker. She was active as president with the parent-teacher association, and was president of the Lincoln Village Garden Club. As her children grew, she needed another challenge, so she went back to school and became a licensed practical nurse. She first worked at an ear, nose and throat office and later went to work for ophthalmologist Dr. Fredrick M. Kapetansky, MD, a glaucoma-related specialist in Columbus, from where she eventually retired.
She was born Jan. 10, 1928, in Columbus, to the late John W. and Ethel (Chambers) Brazelton. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Bootes, whom she married March 26, 1978; sons, Robert A. Buchheit and Cheny F. Kohen; great-grandson, Duncan McAdow; sister, Beverly Spung; and daughter-in-law, Ely Buchheit. Her step-daughter-in-law, Judy Bootes, died 11 days after she did.
She is survived by her son, John C. Buchheit of Jacksonville, Florida; daughter, Patricia (Douglas) McAdow of Marysville; stepson, Donald C. Bootes of Lady Lake, Florida; daughter-in-law, Catherine Kohen Zippay of Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida; grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) McAdow, Nicholas (Bethany) McAdow, Beau (Kristina) Buchheit and Alan (fianceé Heather Barlanti) Buchheit; step-grandchildren, Jill (John) Ghosn, Kevin (Melissa) Bootes and Wendy (James) Large; 10 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and her church family, which she loved dearly.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at noon Friday, Sept. 7 at Marysville Christian Church. The Rev. Mark Arnie and Ed Beeson will officiate the service, and burial will take place at a later date.
If desired, memorial contributions in her memory may be made to either Heartland Hospice of Marion or the charity of a donor’s choice. Contribution envelopes will be available at the church or can be sent directly to Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel, which is handling arrangements.
