Blake Frederick Gorton, 16, died suddenly March 2, 2024 from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash. He was a junior at Fairbanks High school.
Blake was loving and kind, sensitive, easy going, respectful and humble. He enjoyed riding his four-wheeler, especially on the Silver Lake Sand Dunes. He was a leader, an avid sports enthusiast, and joined his friends as they cheered on fellow FHS athletes in baseball, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading, as well as supporting his Mitts teammates. He knew where he wanted his strike zone; however, the umpires didn’t always agree. His fixer truck project was challenging but rewarding.
A baptized and confirmed member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Blake also attended services at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Blake graduated from St. John’s Lutheran School in 2021 where he played soccer and basketball. In high school he was training for his second year varsity, third year on the Panther baseball team. He played travel baseball for 9 years, the past several for the Marysville Mitts. In his brief life he participated in 4-H, FFA, helped on the family farm, worked for his uncle at Evergreen Landscaping, and umpired baseball and softball games.
Cherishing his memory forever are his parents Todd Frederick and Allison (Boerger) Gorton, sister Grace Carolina Gorton (Alex Galsterer,) and girlfriend Lexie Cushman; his grandparents Mike and Rhonda (Dooley) Gorton, David and Nina (Rausch) Boerger; great-grandparents Bill and Charlotte Gorton, and Rosie Dooley; uncles and baptismal sponsors Brad (Brittney Kennedy) Gorton and Adam (Sarah Wiley) Boerger. He was also dearly loved by his younger cousins Viv Gorton; Barrett, Vera, and Colt Boerger; and older cousin Dominic Kennedy. Also surviving are his great-uncles Gary (Laurie) Gorton and Doyle (Barb) Rausch; great-aunts Cindy Gorton (Paul) Pallini, Beverly Boerger Winter, Joy Rausch (Larry) Ballard, and Wanda Rausch DuPuis, along with many second cousins and extended family members, classmates, teammates, as well as his fur friend Ella.
Blake was predeceased by his great-grandfather Fred Dooley, great-grandparents Richard and Virginia (Brake) Boerger, and Wallace and Mildred (Lombard) Rausch.
Visitation will be at St. John’s Lutheran School gymnasium, 12809 OH-736, Marysville, on Thursday, March 7, 4-8 pm and for an hour preceding the funeral at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, March 8 at 3pm. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery following the service. Rev. Jack Heino and Rev Beth Clothier will be conducting the service.
The family suggests the Fairbanks Dugout Club, Marysville Mitts, or charity of choice should a memorial be desired in Blake’s memory, in lieu of flowers. Donations may be sent to the funeral home.
