Brian David Burns, 55, of Milford Center, died Monday evening, May 14, at his home, surrounded by his loving family following an extended battle with cancer.
He was a heavy equipment operator by trade, but his mechanical abilities kept him busy working “off the clock” for many friends and others in the community. He was the go-to guy and was always there to lend his support.
There was always a steady stream of friends at the barn to socialize. Saturdays especially commanded a crew to gather while splitting wood for wood stoves near and far.
He was born March 15, 1963, in Marysville, to J. David Burns and the late Flora V. Rieckers Burns. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his father-in-law, Frank Rausch.
He married the former Barb Rausch June 6, 1987, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Barb; their daughters, Sarah (Brett) Kennedy of Dublin, Leah (Shane) McNea of Cleveland and Hannah Burns of Cincinnati; two grandchildren, Olivia Kennedy and Finn McNea; his father and step-mother, David and Phoebe Ann Burns of New Albany; sisters, Karla (Jeff) Mitchell of Plain City and Krista (John) Reed of St. Louis, Missouri; mother-in-law, Leota Rausch of Marysville; many friends who have been there to help through his illness; and his canine companion Jack.
Calling hours will be held from 3-8 p.m., Thursday at the Ingram Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Friday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church where he had been a life member. The Rev. Paul Schlueter will officiate at the services. Burial will follow at St. Paul Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Loving Care Hospice or the James Cancer Hospital in care of the funeral home.
