Columbus Newell, 90, of East Liberty, died Thursday morning, Oct. 25, 2018, at his residence following a brief illness.
He was retired after 40 years of service with Landmark, Inc.
He found great satisfaction in working at Landmark and gardening. He especially enjoyed his good neighbors through the years and was also known as an avid donkey trader. He was an Air Force veteran of WWII and was privileged to be a part of an Honor Flight trip to Washington D.C.
During his tour in the military, he spent 90 days schooling automotive mechanics at the Schofield Barracks in Oahu, Hawaii, but spent most of his tour on Guam. Also, during his tour of duty, he took railroad trips through Japan and the Philippines. He was a member of the Raymond VFW Post #9909.
He was born March 25, 1928, in Beech Hill, West Virginia, to the late John and Fannie Clonch Newell. He was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary Meaige; a daughter Linda Voiles; his five brothers and sisters and five half-brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kevin Goodwin; three granddaughters; three grandsons; and nine great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday at the Ingram Funeral Home with the Rev. James Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Unionville Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the serice.
