David A. Griffith, 81, of Broadway, passed away unexpectedly and peacefully Wednesday morning, January 3, 2024, at his home.
The only son of five children, he was born January 24, 1942, in Marysville to the late Walter E. and Florence D. (Mauck) Griffith. A 1960 graduate of Marysville High School, he was a member of the Marysville High School FFA, and he excelled as a football player. As a kid he enjoyed collecting comic books, and owned hundreds of them. After high school, David took his love of farming and began working for Coleman’s Farm in Marysville. He simply loved farming and raising livestock. Around this time, he married the former Kay Evans on January 20, 1964, and they shared 46 years of love and family before her passing June 29, 2010.
In later years, David would drive a milk truck for Boerger Farms which began his profession as a self-employed truck driver. Very handy and sharp minded, he also worked for the former Denison Hydraulics, and he enjoyed tinkering with trucks and farm machinery. Though bull-headed and strong minded at times, he also had a great sense of humor, and was a very devoted husband, dad, and papaw. He enjoyed buying things for his family and taking care of them, as well as attending his kids and grandkids sports. Though he loved cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, he would often be found napping at home while the game was running on TV. A man of faith, he currently attended the Millcreek Church of Christ.
David is survived by his children, Kim (Mike) Butcher of Richwood, Dale (Michele) Griffith of Marysville, Deanna (Mike) House of Huntersville, North Carolina, Daren (Katie) Griffith of Marysville, Karen (Brian) Ogan of Raymond, and Kyle (Michelle) Griffith of Hilliard; grandchildren Cory, Cailtin, Derek, Marisa, Amanda, Colton, Tyler, Abby Kay, Kayla, Garrett, Aidan, Mia, Keaton and Charley; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters Barbara Jean Stevenin, Dona Lyn Watterson and Ruth Ellen Limes; longtime best friend Dave Green, whom he shared a love of farming with; several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
Along with his parents and his beloved wife, Kay, David was also preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Elizabeth (Robert) Schlitz, and a brother-in-law Thomas Stevenin.
