David L. Wiley, 76, of Richwood, died Sunday morning, Oct. 29, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his family following a number of months of failing health.
A farmer for nearly his whole life, he was known as a leader in the farming community and was respected by many. His career in farming spanned six decades and his work included livestock and grain farming, selling crop insurance and representing Pioneer Seeds for more than 40 years.
He served on the State Young Farmers Council and the Farm Credit Board. He was also a member of the Marysville Young Farmers, the FFA, the Farm Bureau and the former McKendree United Methodist Church, which is now the York Center United Methodist Church. Known for his love of the “green,” he also had an extensive collection of John Deere toy tractors.
He was born on March 5, 1941, at his home on the family farm near Richwood, to the late Arnold and Dorothy Applegate Wiley. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Greg Wiley, and brother, Don.
He is survived by his wife, the former Nancy Clute Ackerman, whom he married in 1980; children, Kevin (Suelyn) Ackerman, Chad Ackerman, Tammy (Russel) Fout, Roxanne (Dwight) Friermood, Cindy (Jeff) Brown and Randy (Kari) Wiley; grandchildren, Luke, Blake, Joel, Elizabeth and Will Ackerman, Brad and Ben (Bethany) Fout, Brittanie (Travis) Bahan, Logan and Katie Brown, Chris (Emily), Jessica and John Friermood, Kinze and Karlee and Koldan Wiley; great-grandchildren, Avery, Olivia, Alexis, Kaden, Taylor, Bailey, Bradley and especially Trey and Tera, who were dear to his heart; great-great-granddaughter, Ella Mae; sister, Betty Shipley; sister-in-law, Joanne Wiley; and nieces and many friends in the farming community.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Ingram Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Waeger will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at York Center United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at York Center Cemetery.
