Deborah E. “Debbie” Gordon, age 68, of Marysville, died Saturday, November 25, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Marysville.
Her first job was in food service wearing roller skates as a “car hop” at the Marysville Frost Top Drive-In, now known as Benny’s Pizza, which led her into being a bartender for many years. She began at Marysville Lanes and went on to serve at the (old) Flamingo Bar, The Sportsman Lounge, The Hideaway Lounge, Marysville Elks Lodge, Marysville Eagles Lodge and retired from bartending at the (new) Flamingo Bar.
She was also a school bus driver for the Marysville School System and later at the Union County Board of Developmental Disabilities. Debbie also served as a direct service supervisor and a line leader at U-Co Industries until her retirement.
A 1973 graduate of Marysville High School, Debbie was an avid NASCAR fan and loved to cook, especially dinners for LOTS of people.
She will be most remembered for her love of life, her hearty laugh, and having a compassionate heart for others, especially the disabled. She was joyful, personable, a wonderful listener, a great co-worker, and never missed work.
She was born January 1, 1955, in Sidney, Ohio to the late Lester James and Florence Ellen (Burroughs) Welch. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Jessica Lynn McCreary in 2021; a brother, Richard Burroughs; and her nephews, Michael and Greg Griffis.
She is survived by her son, Sam (Denicka) Gordon of Mt. Victory; her granddaughter, Savannah Davis; her son-in-law, Grant McCreary of Marysville; her sisters, Jean Ann Campbell of Cincinnati, and Dora (Paul) Griffis of Sidney; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. Rev. Tom Young will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date at Maple Grove Cemetery in North Lewisburg.
