Frederick “Fred” Matthew Brandt, 73, of Marysville, died Jan. 5, 2019, after surviving pancreatic cancer for more than three years.
He resided in Sandusky before moving to the Columbus area. He was a proud member of the United States Marine Corps, Fifth Marine Division Recon Battalion, in the Vietnam War.
He was known as a master carpenter, and worked in the construction field for more than 50 years. He served as a field liaison for the Ohio State Architect’s office, and received honors for the Morrow County Ohio Department of Transportation garage.
He was born Dec. 29, 1945, in Hoboken, New Jersey.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Kay Brandt, whom he married Dec. 21, 1986; son, Matthew Frederick Brandt; daughter-in-law, Rebekah Harrand Brandt; grandson, Arlo Matthew Brandt, all of Marysville; brother and sister-in-law, James and Donna Beardsley; step-nieces and nephew, Samara, Donovan, Grayson and Sawyer Anderson of Damascus; aunt, Doris Shafer, whom he called “mom”; and cousins, Paula (Bert) of Woodville, Georgia and Lisa (Toby) Dalton and Eatonton, Georgia.
A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 311 E. Sixth St., Marysville.
It is requested donations be made to the James Cancer Hospital in Columbus, in lieu of sending flowers. Gifts may be made through The Ohio State University Foundation noted on its website, “Special funds – The James Cancer Hospital,” or by calling the foundation at 614-292-2141. Note the gift is a memorial for him so the family can personally thank the giver.
