Gary L. Roberts, 83, of Broadway, passed away peacefully, Thursday afternoon, March 14, 2023, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton after months of failing health.
One of four siblings, Gary was born September 27, 1940, at the family home in Raymond to the late Kenneth L. and Bernice M. (Laughrey) Roberts. A graduate of Northwestern High School, he worked for Nestle in Marysville and Sunbury for 30 years before he began employment in housekeeping at Memorial Hospital of Union County. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed coaching little league baseball and his favorite football team was the Cleveland Browns. Gary enjoyed working around the yard and in his garage. He was an avid car enthusiast and was once the proud owner of a Chevy 409, a Pontiac Grand Prix, and a 1964 red convertible Corvette. He enjoyed going to the drag races with his brother Bob. He also enjoyed traveling and visited South Dakota, Arkansas, Myrtle Beach, Niagra Falls, and the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. He also enjoyed camping with his niece and nephews.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Kristin (John) Crankshaw of Springfield, Mike Roberts of Stoutsville, Tim Roberts of Columbus, Mike (Kathy Goldsberry) Poling of Plain City, Margo (Gene) Mathys of West Mansfield, and Cindy Hopkins of Marion; special great niece and great nephew Claire & Connor Crankshaw with whom Gary was especially close; in-laws John & Janet Woodworth who spent a lot of time with Gary when his health began to fail; and many other nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Along with his parents, Gary was also preceded in death by his brothers Jim & Bob Roberts, and his sister Dorothy Poling.
A private family burial will be held at Raymond Cemetery at a later date. In Gary’s memory, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice in care of Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville, who is assisting the family.
