George Edward Coder, 91, of Marysville and former longtime resident of West Mansfield, died early Tuesday morning, Oct. 23, 2018, at Bluebird Retirement Community, surrounded by his family following months of failing health.
A devoted husband and loving father and grandfather, he cherished his time spent with his family. He enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren’s sporting events and watching harness racing, especially when his son Tony’s horse, Cam Coder, was racing.
As many of his neighbors can attest, he was well known for working in his yard and he also enjoyed a good game of cards, especially euchre. He worked as a telegrapher for the railroad for more than 40 years, sold and repaired televisions on the side and was a longtime member of the Big Springs United Methodist Church.
He was born Jan. 3, 1927, in Marysville, to the late Harry and Ethel (Hatfield) Coder. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of more than 70 years, Winona “Lonnie” Coder, whom he married Nov. 22, 1946, in Kentucky, and who died Dec. 16, 2016; brother, Robert Coder; and brother-in-law, Keith Moffett.
He is survived by his children, Susan (Itaru) Norris-Fujiwara of Marysville, Tony (Anna) Coder of Bellefontaine and Beverly (Rick) Tudor of Big Springs; grandchildren, Tony (Pragati) Coder Jr., Lisa (Brian) Perry, Stacey (Jeremiah) Miller, Bryan Norris, Joshua (Ashley) Tudor and Jennifer (Mike Howard) Tudor; great-grandchildren, Bryce, Alex, Nikhil, Madison, Corey (Hannah), Natalie, Brooklynn, Evelynn, Saijyn, Baikyr and Phenyx; great-great-grandchild, Charlotte “Charlie”; sister, Barbara Moffett of Marysville; brother, Donald (Roberta) Coder of Marysville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Doug Thompson will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Big Springs United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in West Mansfield, next to his wife. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, Schnurrenberger Chapel, 222 W. Center St., West Mansfield.
