Glenn Houdashelt Jr., 76, of Marysville, died Thursday morning, Jan 23, 2020, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Columbus following a brief illness.
He retired as a welder from the Transportation Research Center in East Liberty after 18 years of service, following many years as a weld fabricator with the Sutphen Corporation in Dublin.
An automobile lover at heart, he enjoyed his classic cars and drag racing. He was a member of Mid Ohio Cruisers for 28 years, The Good Guys Rod and Custom Association for more than 30 years, and the National Street Rod Association for 20 years. In his racing years, he held a national speed record at National Trails Raceway in a dragster.
He was born Feb. 24, 1943, in Columbus, to the late James G. and Mary A. Reid Houdashelt Sr. He married the former Claire J. Kingery, March 17, 1972, at the Jerome United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Claire; their children, Mary, Jim, Bill, Patty and Amanda; 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brothers, Paul (Kathy), Gary (Ginny) and Pete (Dee Dee); and his many friends in the automotive world.
Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Ingram Funeral Home in Marysville where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. James Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
