Helen M. Prater, 77, died Monday, May 7, 2018, at her residence in Mount Victory.
She worked for Walmart in Bellefontaine for 10 years and previously owned her own ceramic shop. She was a member of the McGuffey High School class of 1959, as well as Flat Branch Church of Christ in McGuffey and First Christian Church in Kenton for seven years. She was a doll collector. She loved her family and they were the most important part of her life.
She was born March 20, 1941, in Hardin County, to the late Joseph and Frances (Biederman) Dunson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her great-grandchild, Jolecia Foulk, and five brothers, Conneth, Dale, Richard, Clifford and Raymond Dunson.
She is survived by her husband, Eldon Prater, whom she married April 3, 1960, and who lives in Mount Victory. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Shari Jo Prater of West Mansfield and Gina (David) Roth of Bellefontaine; two grandchildren: Amber Foulk and Sallie Kaplan; great-grandchildren, Aundrea, Kaiden, Jaylinn, Emma, Lily, Briar and Rhiya; brother, Floyd Dunson of Fort Myers, Florida; sister, Rose Marie Sorgen of Belle Center; and lifelong friends, Nikki Smith, Cathy Dummitt and Terri Lamb.
The Rev. Tom Kahley will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, Alger, which is in charge of arrangements. Burial will take place in McDonald-Fairview Cemetery, Kenton. Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hanson-Neely Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service Friday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., also at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Columbus Children’s Hospital.
