James C. Herriott, 87, of Marysville died Wednesday evening at his home surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Retired as a self-employed building contractor, he started his construction career working for his uncle and then his father Cora J. “ Mike” Herriott. Following his career in construction he worked at Scioto Valley Janitorial Services and finally at the Marysville Moose Lodge. He grew up, raised his family and lived his life in New Dover.
Jim enjoyed OSU football and basketball, cheering for the Browns, and NASCAR. In earlier years, he was an avid racoon hunter and drove stock cars. He held memberships in the Eagles Lodge #3506, was a charter member of the Marysville Moose Lodge #1651, and an auxiliary member of the VFW.
He was born November 4, 1934 in Delaware County to the late Cora J. “Mike” and Dorothy Fogle Herriott. He was preceded in death by a baby son; a great grandson Tyler A. Bumgartner; siblings, Bernice Mitchell, Wilma Wibley, Velma Torbert, William & Harold Herriott.
Jim is survived by his wife the former Charlotte A. Benjamin whom he married Sept. 17, 1954 at the Oakland Park EUB Church in North Linden, OH; their children, Toni (Bob) Bumgartner, James (Sharon) Herriott, Robin (Debbie) Herriott, Sherry (Scott) Fethelulf; 15 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, a great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-4pm at the Ingram Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 1pm Monday with the Rev. Wayne Engle officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Herman Cemetery. The family requests that all entering the funeral home wear masks for the safety of all.
