James D. Walker, 76, died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2018, at his home with his wife by his side.
He grew up on the west side of Columbus and received his engineering degree from The Ohio State University. He worked at Denison for more than 40 years at the Columbus, Marysville and Delaware plants. He worked hard during his career to obtain his professional engineering license.
On May 11, 1985, he married Barbara Garrett. They spent almost 35 years together at their quiet country home outside of Marysville.
He was a history buff. He and his wife also enjoyed traveling, and they combined their favorite hobbies into adventures by discovering historical places and treasures throughout the eastern United States. They visited iconic Civil War monuments, found ancestral headstones dating back to 1639, frequented art galleries and toured the east coast from Maine to Florida. They spent many vacations at Nags Head, North Carolina, where they were married on the beach.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed sports, especially the football and basketball programs at The Ohio State University. He was known for his quick wit and kind spirit. He was an animal lover and doted on his beagle, Teddy.
He was born April 9, 1942, in Columbus, to the late Arthur and Martha (Williams) Walker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Jean (Walker) Henshall.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughters, Deanna (Josh) Miller and Deborah (Brad) Barnett; and grandchildren, Max, Mia and Emma.
A gathering will be held from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Plain City. The Rev. Lonnie Beachy will officiate a memorial service at noon Thursday at the funeral home.
