Janice E. “Jan” Viers Glassburn, 64, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2017, in the emergency room at Memorial Hospital.
A former longtime cosmetologist at Nu-Image in Marysville, she was a 1972 graduate of The Ohio State School of Cosmetology. In recent years, she was an assistant for her niece’s business, Mohican Physical Therapy, which later became Memorial Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine. She was named “2014 Star Performer of the Year” at Memorial Hospital. A proud cancer survivor, she volunteered at the hospital in the physical department after her battle with lymphoma. She was also a former associate at Goodies Galore and assisted with her late sister’s business, J2 Creations.
She attended Marysville Grace Church and was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. A 1971 graduate of Marysville High School, she was involved in many activities, including serving as a majorette in the marching band with her twin sister, Joyce Viers Segner. She enjoyed golfing with her friends, scrapbooking, cooking, crafting and her pets. As a skilled baker, she shared many of her goodies with her family and friends. She especially cherished spending time with her loved ones at Indian Lake. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, “mawmaw,” daughter, sister and aunt.
She was born on Nov. 14, 1952, in Delaware, to Homer R. Viers and the late Floretta M. Oberle Viers, who died in 1998. In addition to her mother, she was also preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce Viers Segner, who died in 2009, and Jo Ann “Jody” Viers Anderson-Schuette, who died in 2015; and her sister-in-law, Vickie Glassburn, who died in 2016.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Roger W. Glassburn, whom she married on Oct. 23, 1976, at First Presbyterian Church of Marysville by the Rev. John M. Groat; son, Joel (Allison) Glassburn of Delaware; step-daughter, Buffi (Keith) Novotney of Marblehead; grandchildren, Ashley (Blake) Novotney, Ryan Novotney, Rileigh Glassburn and Jake Glassburn; great-grandchildren, Michael and Dallas; her father, Homer R. Viers of Marysville; brother, Don (Diane) Viers of Marysville; brothers-in-law, Jerry (Mary Ann) Segner, Terry (Kay) Glassburn, Reggie Glassburn and Bob (Beth) Glassburn; sister-in-law, Darlene (Steve) Geer; nieces and nephews, Jason (Brandy) Segner, Jennifer (Brent) Maxwell, Jeremy (Kim) Segner, Jeff Anderson, Jared Anderson, Conner Viers, Sarah Bond, Mary Bond, Doug Glassburn, Leslie (Jeff) Berridge, Jill (Jeff Pister) Johnson, Kelly Kramer, Tony Glassburn, Megan (Vinny) Sette and Holly (James) Moots; several great-nieces and nephews; and many other relatives, good pals and special friends, including Bob and Tammy Titus and Jake and Carolyn Mullet.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Underwood Funeral Home, where the Rev. Clancy Cruise will officiate funeral services at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be held at a later date.
