Jerry L. Shirk, 69, of Raymond, died Wednesday morning, Dec. 26, 2018, at his home following an extended illness, surrounded by his family.
He retired from Scotts Miracle-Gro after 44 years of service. He was a man dedicated to the service of his country, having served 25 years in the National Guard and three years of active duty in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of VFW Post #3320, the Marysville Eagles Lodge and the Scotts 20-year club.
He was a very social person who never met a stranger. He enjoyed camping with his family, hunting and shooting his guns. His other past times included reading history, especially local history, talking with anyone who shared that interest and woodworking, specifically making ink pens.
He was born Nov. 25, 1949, in Columbus, to the late Pearl L. and Carrie M. Hayman Shirk. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Carter and Alice Alloway.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Edith O’Neal Shirk, whom he married Feb. 10, 1968, in Marion; sons, Gregory W. Shirk of Marysville and Jerry L. (Debbie S.) Shirk of North Lewisburg; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sister, Sandra (Pearl Jr.) Cline of Raymond; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home. The Rev. Carl Spain will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Raymond Cemetery, with full military honors provided by the Union County Guard.

Calling hours will be held from 4-7pm Friday at the Ingram Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 11am Saturday with the Pastor Carl Spain officiating. Burial will follow at Raymond Cemetery with full military honors to be provided by the Union County Guard.
