Jerry N. Converse, 90, of Ostrander, passed away early Saturday morning, April 13, 2024 at his residence.
He was born on January 20, 1934, in Plain City, Ohio, son of Leny L. & Amanda (Nunamaker) Converse. Jerry graduated from Watkins High School and would later go on to attend The Ohio State University, he then left his studies to join the United States Navy. He served his country as a US Navy Corpsman and was honorably discharged.
On September 23, 1956, he married the love of his life Monna Mae Fontanelle. Together they shared 65 years of marriage. Jerry and Monna’s farm started off with dairy cattle and hogs, and would grow to several hundred chickens, beef cattle and crops. Jerry loved his family and enjoyed the time that he spent with them, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry was dedicated in caring for his wife, family, and farm.
Jerry retired from Marion Correctional Institute as a Lieutenant, where he was in charge of the Quarter Master. He raised and trained Belgian Draft Horses, and at one time had 13 of them, and would travel to fairs, festivals and shows that featured Draft Horse events. He was also active in and a large supporter of the Union County Fair, their 4-H, FFA, Draft Horse and Parade programs. He was also active in the Watkins High School Alumni and helped coordinate and setup their reunions.
Surviving is his children, Thomas Converse of Marysville, William (Janet) Converse of Raymond, Ohio, Richard Converse of Ostrander and Rebecca (Converse) Short of Wilmington, Ohio; five grandsons, Jarred (Becky) Converse, Dustin (Casey) Converse, Billy (Courtney) Converse, Westin Short and Carson Short; six great grandchildren, Kathleen Converse, Milo Converse, Colby Converse, Reagan Converse, Madison Converse and Laramie Jo Converse; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, Jerry was also preceded in death by his great grandson, Mason Converse, brother Donald Converse and sister and brother-in-law Connie (Tom) Zimmerman.
Visitation will be held from 5 – 8 pm on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Robinson Funeral Home, 32 West Winter Street, Delaware, Ohio 43015, where the funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, April 19, 2024. Burial will follow in the Mount Herman Cemetery, New Dover, Union County.
