Jesse Helton Jr., 73, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Friday, March 15, 2019, at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
He retired after 37 years of service with Columbia Gas System. After retirement, he worked for Sumitomo for more than five years. Brother Jesse enjoyed working as a bus aide for children with special needs for the Marysville School District.
He was a faithful member of Hickory Grove United Baptist Church in Mechanicsburg, where he served as treasurer for many years. He enjoyed building projects and was a true “do-it-yourself” handyman. A loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was always considerate of the needs of others before his own.
He was born July 19, 1945, in Paintsville, Kentucky, to Dorothy and the late Jesse Helton Sr. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his son, Michael Helton Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of more than 54 years, Judith (Estep) Helton, whom he married Oct. 31, 1964; mother, Dorothy; daughter, Vicki (Helton) Strickland; grandchildren, Koeby (Abbie) Helton, Austyn Helton, Skylar Strickland, Michael Helton Jr., Cameron Strickland and Kayla Helton; great-grandchildren, Ava, Adelynn and Wyatt; brother, Roger Helton; sisters, Rose Ann Fairchild and Margie Hackworth; and several nieces and a nephew.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Elder Patrick Gilliland will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday at Hickory Grove United Baptist Church, 9681 Route 161, Mechanicsburg. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
