John Wesley Sexton, 75, of Ostrander, died Thursday, July 6, 2017, at The Ohio State University Hospital surrounded by his loving family.
He retired from the Ohio Department of Corrections in 2001. He served in the United States Army, in the 82nd Airborne Division, from 1957 to 1961. His proudest accomplishment was being a part of the Airborne.
He enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. He was mostly content when he could use a lawnmower or was enjoying time with his family.
He was born on Oct. 23, 1941, in Bloomington, Indiana, to the late William and Dorothy Prince Sexton. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Butch and Bobby Sexton.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Garlinghouse Sexton; daughters, Kelli and Kristen Sexton of Shelbyville, Indiana; stepdaughter, Christy (Keith) Cordova of Marysville; stepson, Craig Sabins of Marysville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Rick (Laurie) Griffith of Columbus; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Colfield of Columbus; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; many countless family members and friends from Indiana; and his one special friend, Inky, his black cat.
The Rev. Earl Dunbar will officiate funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Ingram Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. The Union County Honor Guard will provide full military honors.
