LouElla K. “Kay” Alexander, 82, a lifetime resident of Marysville, died Monday morning, Oct. 23, 2017, at Carriage Court after many years of failing health.
She retired from the Ohio Reformatory for Women after 16 years of service, beginning her career as a corrections officer before becoming a secretary. In her early years, she was a Girl Scouts Brownie leader, a 4H advisor and a Red Cross volunteer.
In her spare time, she enjoyed watching The Ohio State University football games with her faithful dog companion, Max, and was a huge Elvis fan. She will be remembered for her friendly and bubbly personality that was infectious to all those around her.
She was born on Dec. 9, 1934, in Marysville, to the late Walter M. and Ruby Bennett Staley Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Alexander, whom she married on Dec. 22, 1956, at First Presbyterian Church, and who died July 2, 2002; brother, Walter M. “Mitch” Staley III; and in-laws, Everett and Mary Catherine Alexander Jr., Virginia and Loren “Shine” Grimes and Clarence Snodgres.
She is survived by her children, Darcy (Brett Gaines) Hawke of Marysville and Mark A. (Jayne) Alexander of Shreve; grandchildren, Robert (Jessie) Alexander of Shreve and Christine (Aaron Miller) Alexander of Wooster; great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Gwendoline; in-laws, Mary Jane Snodgres and John and Cheryl Alexander, all of Marysville; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Joey.
Calling hours will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ingram Funeral Home, where the Rev. John Groat will officiate funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery.
