Lowell Milbern Baker, 93, of West Mansfield, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017, at Memorial Gables in Marysville.
He was a member of the York Center United Methodist Church and had served on the board of directors for Union Rural Electric.
He was a devoted sports fan and played basketball in high school. After traveling to Detroit to see the Memphis Tigers play baseball in his youth, he became a lifelong Tigers fan and looked forward to each game. He enjoyed watching the Ohio State University Buckeyes play basketball and football.
He was a lifelong farmer. Though he raised hogs, sheep, chickens and rabbits at various times, he was primarily a cattleman, with Hereford cattle being his favorite. He was commonly found tending to his cattle.
After a blizzard in 1978, he survived a cerebral aneurysm, which paralyzed the right side of his body and impaired his speech. He worked hard in rehabilitation and was eventually able to drive his truck and tractor on the family farm again.
His final days were spent at Memorial Gables, where he received care from the staff and Loving Care Hospice.
He was born on June 5, 1924, in Union County, to the late Milbern A. and Margaret G. (Bonham) Baker. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Robert Lowell Baker.
He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia Fields, whom he married on Dec. 22, 1960; son, Alan (Michele) Baker of Dublin; and granddaughters, Allison Baker of Bowling Green and Madison Baker of Toledo.
The Rev. Jeff Waeger will officiate funeral services Monday at 11 a.m. at Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Richwood. Burial will follow at Byhalia Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
