Nell Jane Garey, 82, of Marysville, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at Memorial Gables surrounded by her loving family.
She was employed with the Nestle Company from 1955 to 1993, where she worked as a senior technician in the chemistry department. After retirement, she returned to work in the company’s microbiology department.
She was a faithful and active member of the Marysville First United Methodist Church. She chaired the Communion Committee, was president of the Friendship Circle, served on the Worship and Mission Committees, performed shut-in communion and served as chairperson of the Women’s Clothing Department during the annual Women In Mission’s rummage sale for many years. She was honored with a Special Mission Award in 1983.
She became a charter member of the former Marysville Lioness Club in 1974 and held several offices while maintaining 25 years of perfect attendance. As a lioness, she was inspired to chair the fundraising drive for the Union Manor Cooling Fund in 1980, and was recognized with the Elks Distinguished Citizenship Award in 1981 and the Elks Foundation Award in 1982.
A devoted volunteer with the Mobile Meals program since 1993, she co-chaired the fundraising drive for the annual Mobile Meals Christmas Basket campaign with her husband. As well, the two worked together to co-chair the Lions eyeglass pick-up program. She took tremendous pride in her lawn and gardens, enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and treasured time spent with her family.
She was born Sept. 29, 1935, in Champaign County, to the late Darwin and Donna Price Severs. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, David E. Garey. They were married on Oct. 27, 1973, by the Rev. Terry Thompson at Marysville First United Methodist Church, and he died Nov. 17, 2015. She was also predeceased by her daughter, Vicki Geer; and her sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Ed Thompson.
She is survived by her children, Jeff (Sandy) Garey of Marysville and Janet Eisenberger of Stow; grandchildren, Melissa (Dale) Banfield, Bill (Caileen) Lane, Michael (Christy) Garey, Jennifer Eisenberger, Jamie (Ryan) McArdle, Lindsay (Jeremy) Cox, Katie Endicott and Jim (Christina) Eisenberger; 18 great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Roger Geer of Marysville; brothers, Fred (Elnora) Severs of Grove City and Tom (Shirley) Severs of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rev. Aaron Brown will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday at Marysville First United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery.
