Nellie Mae Smith, 95, of Marysville, died peacefully Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Memorial Gables where she was lovingly cared for and supported for the past three years.
A 1941 graduate of the former Central High School in Columbus, she was a farmer’s wife who worked their dairy and crop farm in Ostrander and later another on Scottslawn Road.
In her early years, she also worked at the farm bureau, then at various businesses in the Marysville area, but most notably she worked many of her later years at Weiss’s.
She liked doing arts and crafts and was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Memorial Health Auxiliary TWIG 4.
She enjoyed attending services at Diamond Hill Cathedral in Mansfield with her nieces when she was able, where she was affectionately known to everyone as “Aunt Nellie.”
Born Nov. 26, 1922, in Columbus, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Henrietta (Feyh) Scothorn.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Earl B. Smith whom she married July 28, 1951 in Greenfield, Indiana, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 16, 1982; a son, Robert “Bobby” Ulrey; a brother, John Scothorn; and a sister, Betty Foltz.
She is survived by her nieces, Donna Foltz, Linda Myer and Brenda Myer of Columbus, Carolyn (Lee) Norton of Powell and Sharon (Les) Walls of The Villages, Florida.
Friends may from 1-2 p.m., Wednesday at Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, at Wilson Funeral Home, Mannasmith Chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City.
