Phyllis S. Collier, 80, of Plain City, died Monday, July 29, 2019, at Heartland of Dublin.
She was born May 5, 1939, in South Charleston.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Jonathan Alder High School in 1957 and was the first female to receive her diploma. She was one of the first majorette’s at the high school and later taught young girls the art of baton twirling.
After graduation, she was the secretary for superintendent George Robinson and then was the Plain City Elementary School secretary for Eugene Reed, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Plain City. She was very proud of her two boys, five grandsons and two daughters-in-law.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl D. and Zella (Phillips) Skaggs; a son, Jeffrey Collier in 2006; a brother, Loren Skaggs; sister and brother-in-law Lorraine (Bud) Roach; sister-in-law Georgia Skaggs; and sister-in-law, Sue Ayers.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Denzil Collier, whom she married on May 9, 1958, in Plain City; son Greg (Tammi) Collier; daughter-in-law Missy Collier; grandsons Trevor Collier, Adam (Leslee Hovis) Collier, Tyler Collier, Hunter (Andrea) Collier and Brayden Collier; brother Sherrill Skaggs; sister-in-law Edie (Dan) Yutzy; and brother-in-law Robert Ayers.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Friday at the Ferguson Funeral Home, with the funeral to follow at 6 p.m. with pastor Phil Conrad officiating and private family burial at Foster Chapel Cemetery.
