Reinhard F.H. Blumenschein, 91, of Marysville, died Friday morning, March 1, 2019, at his home following many of months of failing health.
A longtime dairy, livestock and grain farmer, he was known for his strong work ethic. He was a calm and quiet man who enjoyed farm life, caring for all God’s creatures and spending time with his cats.
He was a life member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he served the church in many capacities. For 16 years, he served as the custodian and maintenance man for the church and St. John’s Lutheran School. In the early 1950s, he also served his country in the United States National Guard.
He was born May 6, 1927, in Union County, to the late Theodore and Clara Scheiderer Blumenschein. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, the former Ruth Ann Ellinger, whom he married Sept. 29, 1957, at St John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Edward Hoeferkamp officiating, and who died July 16, 1998; brother, Harold “Sparky” Blumenschein; sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Nicol; brother-in-law, Ralph Nicol; and brother and sister-in-law, George and Sharon Ellinger.
He is survived by his children, Rebecca A. (Duane) Beale and Richard F. and Raymond T. Blumenschein; grandson, Cody Alan Beale, all of Marysville; sister, Emma Nicol of Milford Center; sister-in-law, Leona Blumenschein of Marysville; and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ingram Funeral Home. The Rev. Jacob Heino will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
