Rickey “Rick” Tyrone Spain, age 75, of Marysville, died Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Riverside Methodist Hospital.
A former crew leader of the City of Marysville, he was also a past employee of the Ohio Water Company, Parker Hannifin Hydraulics and The Nestle Company.
A 1966 graduate of Marysville High School, he was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and trap shooting. A member of Heart of Ohio Fish and Game Club, he liked fishing for walleye, especially at Lake Erie with his cousin, Jerry Allen. A horseshoe pitcher, he served as president of the Marysville Horseshoe Club years ago.
Rick had a passion for John Deere tractors and enjoyed showing his classic “HOTT ‘66” Chevy II Nova at local car shows. He and his wife, Cathy, loved socializing with other enthusiasts on the car show circuit and at tractor pulls and at the steam thresher show.
Rick was a member of Mt. Carmel Lodge #303 F. & A.M., a life member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 1130 and Raymond Lions Club.
He will be missed by his faithful pets, Sadie and Tom. Above all, he dearly loved being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was born April 23, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Robert and Marie DeGood Spain. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Steven Allen Spain and Randy Mac Spain; his father-and mother-in-law, Charles “Dee” and Geraldine Ann Miller; and a brother-in-law, Tom Miller.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Cathy L. Miller Spain, whom he married on July 6, 1985; his children, Aaron Spain, Anne (Tom) Dingy, Jason (Michelle) Jeffers and Janel (Harland) Smyers; his grandchildren, Killian, Kollin, Victoria, Lilly, Nathan, Alex, Abigail, Brittany, Brook, Andrew, Samuel, Adam and Matthew; several great-grandchildren; his sister, Joy Morrison; his in-laws, Chuck (Cathey) Miller, Gary (Cyndi) Miller and DeeAnn (Dan) King; a sister-in-law, Debbie Miller; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Friday, November 24, 2023 at Underwood Funeral Home where the family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Broadway Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Loving Care Hospice or Monarch Nursing Home activity fund or Union County Humane Society.
