Russell Lee Merideth, 68, of West Jefferson, formerly of Plain City, and a snow bird of Tavares, Florida, died unexpectedly Saturday morning, Nov. 4, 2017, at Doctor’s Hospital in Lincoln Village, surrounded by his loving family.
He retired as an office manager for Big Mike’s Food and was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Vietnam War, from 1968 to 1970. He was honorably discharged and served in the 11th Armored Cavalry, Blackhorse Division, earning a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He was a member of the Lake Veterans Club Inc., in Mount Dora, Florida and Mechanicsburg Eagles Post 3974 and a life member of the West Jefferson VFW Post 7005. He was also very proud of the various cars he collected.
He was born on Jan. 9, 1949, in Columbus, to the late Franklin H. and Edith (McGuire) Merideth. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Bill Merideth.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Kimberly Sue (Junior) Moody and Angela Nicole (Keith) Lester; mother of his daughters, Valerie (Kaufman) Merideth; grandchildren, Katelyn Marie (Cody Vannatta) Moody, Kyle Maynard Moody, Austin Lee Lester and Mackenzie Lester; great-grandchildren, Rylan Lee Moody and Casen Scott Vannatta; siblings, Frank (Beverly) Meredith, Janet (Rick) Kaufman, Paul (Sharon) Merideth and Karen (Les) Ross; sister-in-law, Clarece Merideth; good friend, Sandra K. Blue Shelton; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ferguson Funeral Home, 202 E. Main St., Route 161 W., in Plain City. Andrew Furr will officiate funeral services at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday, with full military honors conducted by the West Jefferson VFW Post 7005. Burial will take place at a later date.
