Sara E. O’Brien, 94, of Marysville, died unexpectedly Sunday morning, July 28, 2019, at Memorial Gables.
A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime member of the First English Lutheran Church and was also a member of the Ever Ready Club and the Heart of Ohio Saddle Club with her husband, Jim. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and cooking for anyone who walked through her door.
She had a feisty personality and was often opinionated. She was a hardworking farmer’s wife who would do anything for anyone and was very caring and kindhearted to those in her life.
She was born Nov. 4, 1924, in North Lewisburg to the late Isaiah J. “Ike” and Helen M. Rees DeHaven. She married James E. O’Brien March 2, 1947, in Marysville at the home of the bride. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1984. She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Davis, a sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Dee Dresback, and a brother James DeHaven.
She is survived by her children, Diana S. (Randall) Davis and Sharon M. (Mark) Flick, both of Marysville, Pamela K. “Crick” (John “Gary”) Ritchie of West Mansfield, and James E. “Ed” (Elly) O’Brien Jr. of Rushylvania; grandchildren Michelle (Brian) Palmer, Tami (Brodie) Rockenbaugh, Amanda “Mandy” Ritchie, Melissa Ritchie, James “Bo” (Billie Jo) O’Brien, Deidra (Ryan) Stanford, Andy (Marcia) O’Brien, Chris Flick and Tyler Flick; nine great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Iolene Snodgrass; and many friends, including longtime friend Dorothy Cotton.
Calling hours will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Ingram Funeral Home, where funeral services will begin at 7 p.m. with pastor Tonya Brittain officiating. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Highland Memorial Park in West Liberty.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First English Lutheran Church Building fund in care of the funeral home.
