Sara J. Scheblo, 84, of Marysville, passed away unexpectedly Monday afternoon, December 4, 2023, at Riverside Methodist Hospital after a very brief illness.
One of three children, Sara, was born June 11, 1939, in Milford Center to the late Elmer G. and Esther M. (Boerger) Kaufman. After graduating as the valedictorian, from Milford Center High School in 1957, she went on to attend the Columbus Business School for accounting. During this time, she met and married her husband, William J. “Bill” Scheblo Jr. in 1958, and they shared 65 years of dedication and love for each other and their family.
Quite the manager, she worked for years at the Marysville Golf Club where her love for golf grew, earning her the nickname “Grandma Golfie” from her grandchildren. Numbers simply made sense to Sara, and she would later work for H&R Block for 25 years where she excelled in accounting. She loved to work puzzles, play games, be it crossword puzzles in the newspaper or solitaire on her computer. She was an active member of several card clubs where she would play bridge and euchre. In her free time, Sara also loved to make wine and preserve vegetables and fruits from her garden and small orchard. A woman of faith, she attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Marysville.
After her husband retired, the two of them traveled to destinations such as Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Alaska, and Hawaii. Very personable and lovable, Sara was outgoing and social, and she easily made friends wherever her path would take her. Her smile lit up the room. She never knew a stranger and could make those in her presence feel like they were not only friends, but family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill; their daughter and son-in-law Diane and Andy Joseph of Marysville; granddaughters Emily Sasala and her husband, Mike, as well as Natalie Collins and her husband, Jamie; great grandchildren Evan, Halle and Kate Collins, and Declan Sasala; a sister and brother-in-law, Marjorie and William Kielmeyer of Englewood, Colorado; brother-in-law Charlie Brockert of New Bremen, Ohio and sister in law Ruthie Scheblo of Fairborn, Ohio, several extended family members, and the many friends Sara made throughout her life.
Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph M. Scheblo on June 7, 2020; and a brother, F. Wayne Kaufman in 1960.
Calling hours will be 4-7 pm Friday, December 8, 2023, at the Ingram Funeral Home, 975 N. Maple St., Marysville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1033 W. 5th St., Marysville, with Father Kevin Kavanagh officiating.
