Shirley E. Schertzer, 65, of Marysville, died Monday evening, Dec. 3, 2018, at Memorial Hospital after months of failing health, with her loving family by her side.
A woman of faith, she attended Calvary Baptist Church in Delaware when her health allowed. An accomplished seamstress, she knitted and crocheted everything for her family, from “jammies” for her great-grandchildren to afghans. She was crafty with many things and was even able to fix tents when needed.
She was an incredibly hard worker in every job she held, but her dedication to her family held the most importance. She especially enjoyed playing dollhouse with her great-granddaughter, “Whipstitch.” She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed.
She was born Oct. 2, 1953, in Delaware, to the late Leeman and L. Evelyn Reed Munday. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Dave Thompson and Danny Munday.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Dennis L. Schertzer, whom she married Dec. 26, 1992, in Delaware; children, Tracey, Eric and Karan, Shannon and Marty, Shawn and Cami and Shelly and Rick; grandchildren, Trevor and Destiny, Ausia and Javin, Alexis and Max, Bo, Ambur, Cody, Olivia, Jacob, Thomas Clark “Gravel,” Amanda and Mathew; great-grandchildren, Skyla, Jaxon, Braylan, Samuel, Ava, Allana, Allora, Anslea, Iivy, Aayden, Aarick, Aaryn, Kennedy, Dakota Clark, Alina, Violet, Harmony and Linden; brother, Kenny Munday; sister, Marilyn Whoolery; sister-in-law, Elaine Thompson; special friend, Michelle Taylor; and lifelong best friend, Diane Westbrook.
Calling hours will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Ingram Funeral Home. The Rev. Luke Cramer will officiate funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at a later date.
In her memory, contributions may be made to the Union County Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
