Stephen Roy “Steve” Scheiderer, 74, of Zanesfield, died peacefully while taking his morning nap Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, with his loving wife, Celia, in the kitchen and his faithful dog, Colt, by his side.
He retired from General Motors in Columbus after 30 years of service. He was a member of the UAW Local 969, Farm Bureau, and Corvette Club, and was a lifetime NRA member. He was an avid hunter and trapper and enjoyed the land. He loved his God, his family and his country, in that order. He grew up in the St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church family, where he served as an elder.
He was born on April 23, 1943, in Columbus, to the late Chester and Bertha Kandel Scheiderer. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Ron Chapman.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Celia M. Rea Scheiderer, whom he married on Dec. 20, 1987, at Zion Lutheran Church in London; daughters, Rene (Brent Hilliard) Scheiderer and Denise (Greg) Yutzy; stepchildren, Matt (Susie) Higgins, Chad Higgins and Kendra (Jeff) Adams; two grandchildren; one soon-to-be great-grandson; six step-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Karen) Scheiderer; sister, Joette Chapman; three nephews; two great-nieces, two great-nephews; and an aunt, Elsie Kandel.
In accordance with his wishes, after his cremation, the Rev. Jacob D. Heino will officiate memorial services at 4 p.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where the family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. Private interment will be held at a later date at the church’s cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis Scheiderer, Greg Yutzy, Zachary Yutzy, Justin Chapman, Seth Chapman and Gabriel Chapman.
