Thomas Edward Houghton, age 89, of Marysville, formerly of Delaware and Westerville, died peacefully Saturday, March 30, 2024 at The Bluebird Retirement Community.
A retired, five-year associate of Honda of America, he was a former machinist with Jeffrey Machine and Timkin Companies in Columbus.
Tom was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served from 1956 – 1960.
A member of Bible Baptist Church in Marysville, he was a former member of Grace Baptist Church in Delaware and a former member of Westerville Bible Church.
He enjoyed gardening, playing Solitaire, and was a big fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He was dearly devoted to his loving wife, daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Tom was born January 10, 1935 in St. Albans, West Virginia to the late James Patrick and Lula Elizabeth McClain Houghton. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by all his siblings, Geneva, Edith, Patrick and Ann; a brother-in-law, Fred Pettit and a sister-in-law, Pat Harvey.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Doris “Dee” Jean Pettit Houghton, whom he married September 3, 1960 at Columbus Baptist Temple; three daughters, Patti (Gary) Dow of Reynoldsburg, Penni (Rick) Dow of Hilliard and Peggy (Emmit “Les”) Wallace of Muncie, Indiana; ten grandchildren, Nikki (Tony) Hebdo, Thomas “Tad” Dow, Cassandra Dow, Samantha (Blaine) Beller, Kalinda Dow, Andrew “Drew” (Kristen) Dow, Rachael (Drew) Jordan, Courtney Wallace, Emmitt “Quint” (Naomi) Wallace and Amanda Wallace; great-grandchildren, AJ, Ailey, Kimberlynn and Emmitt “Li’l E;” and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Bible Baptist Church, 16435 Square Drive, Marysville where the family will receive friends beginning at 12 noon. Pastor Jeremy Stout will officiate. Interment will be held at a later date at Kingwood Memorial Park in Columbus.
