Victor D. Markham, 94 of Richwood, died unexpectedly Monday December 12, 2023 at his home.
He was born May 1, 1929 in Waverly to the late John and Bessie (Beatty) Markham. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margene (Bayhan) Markham, they were married January 10, 1951 and she died December 21, 2013. Also preceding him in death were siblings, John Jr., Glen, Forest, Robert, William, James and Martha Cline.
Vic served our country in the United States Army. He drove for Eastern Greyhound Lines for 30 yrs. He was a member of the Richwood First Methodist Church. He held memberships in the Richwood American Legion Baccarat Post #40, VFW Post #870 and Mt. Carmel Lodge #303 F & AM. He had also worked for the Union County Auditor Weights and Measures Dept. and was the Claibourne Township Zoning Inspector for years.
Vic loved to golf, he was an original member of the Richwood Golf League and the old “Sweet Sixteen” golf group. He was a talented gardener and always took great pride in his yard and home. He loved his time spent playing cards at the Red Barn in Richwood with his friends. Vic was a huge supporter of North Union Athletics; he enjoyed going to all the games.
Vic will be remembered as a true old school gentleman who could really tell a story. His ability to tell jokes was legendary.
Surviving are his sons, Gene (Jeri) Markham of Tucson, Arizona, Marty (Teresa) Markham of Marysville and David (Lisa McDaniel) Markham of Marion grandchildren, Brent (Elizabeth), Kate, Jack (Hannah), Dylan great-grandchildren, Asher, Clara, Warren and Hudson brother, Joe Markham of Cleveland, TN.
Funeral services will be held Monday December 18, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home in Richwood. Pastor Joseph Rhea will officiate. Burial will follow in the Claibourne Cemetery. There will be Military Honors given by the Richwood Area Veterans. Friends may call Sunday from 2-4 pm at the funeral home in Richwood. There will be Masonic services at 4:00 pm on Sunday.
