William Howard “Bill” Erwin, age 77, of Granville, formerly of Marysville, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, January 27, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.
As a boy, Bill grew up in the Marysville area. He attended elementary schools in Unionville Center and Broadway and spent three years in high school at Northwestern Local School in Raymond. He was in the first senior class to be consolidated with Marysville High School. While at Northwestern School, he was a representative to Buckeye Boys’ State and also won the state spelling bee contest.
Bill attended The Ohio State University and Capital University. He was a controller at Ohio Distribution Warehouse in Obetz for most of his accounting career. He then worked for ten years as an accountant at Sarcom.
Bill enjoyed flying his Cessna 150, playing the piano, photography and his cats. He was saved in 1977; however, Bill realized that he hadn’t really understood his need for Jesus in his life until 2008. He loved attending Bible Baptist Church of Marysville where he was a charter member. Bill rededicated his life to the Lord in 2009.
He was born April 14, 1946 in Marion to the late Jack and Nelda Bailey Erwin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Bob and Steve Erwin.
He is survived by his son, William “Mike” (Sarah) Erwin of Piketon, Betsy (Ronnie) Sargent of Granville and Aimee (Eric) Rogers of Glenmont; his grandchildren, Richard Erwin, Nicole Erwin, Cydnee (Griffin) Ray, Nathan (Cece) Shoemaker, Elisabeth (Brandon) Morey, Aaron (Catherine) Sargent, Gabrielle Sargent, Sarah Sargent, Joshua Sargent, Eric (Ashley) Rogers, Christine (Andrew) Locke, Matthew (Rose) Rogers and Bethany (Iden) Rocha; his great-grandchildren, Alice, Aubree, Maycee, Benjamin, Lilliana, Liam, Josephine and Jackson; and many other relatives.
Funeral services will be held 12 noon, Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Bible Baptist Church, 16435 Square Drive, Marysville, where the family will receive friends beginning at 11 a.m. A luncheon will follow the funeral service and graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. at Claibourne Cemetery in Richwood.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Union County Humane Society for cat rescue.
