The Jonathan Alder Power of the Pen team had a very successful day at the recent regional tournament at Wittenberg College in Springfield. The seventh and eighth grade teams took second place honors. Jackson McCoy, a Jonathan Alder eighth grader took first place in his grade. He was also awarded the prestigious “Wittenberg Power of the Pen Award” which comes with a $26,0000 scholarship that can be renew for four years. McCoy was the recipient of the prestigious Director’s Choice award. His short story, “The Cheater,” was written at district competition and was selected by the Executive Director of Power of the Pen and the trophy was presented at the regional event. Olivia Cramer, an eighth grader, earned a “Best of Round” award at regional event based on her short story, “One Word Will Change it All,” written at the district competition. Her story was selected by the Western Conference Power of the Pen coordinator. Jackson and Cramer, along with eighth grader Cayden Wilson and seventh graders Bailey Bliss and Tara Coffee advanced to the state tournament in May at the College of Wooster.
