The process has begun in the search for a new head boys basketball coach at Marysville High School.
Ryan Grose announced late last week he was stepping down from the position he held for the past 11 seasons.
Grose took over the top hoop job during the summer of 2010.
He guided the Monarchs to a 112-140 record during his tenure.
The Monarchs won the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division championship during the 2019-20 season.
He stated to the Journal-Tribune last week he was resigning to pursue other opportunities and to spend more time with his family.
He said he is not done coaching.
Monarch athletic director Joey Day told the Journal-Tribune earlier this week the position was posted as being vacant both internally within the district and outside of the school.
It appears on the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s web site for job openings.
“I feel the boys basketball job at Marysville High School is a very good position,” said Day. “Ryan did a great job of building the program, and along with our renovation project with our gymnasium, I feel we will attract a number of quality candidates.”
The athletic director said district officials are still working through what the interview process will look like for Grose’s successor.
“We will accept applications through Sunday, May 2,” said Day. “We’ve already had a few nibbles with some inquiries, but no names that anyone here would recognize.”
Day said interviews could very well begin the week of May 3.
“We want to be efficient with our interview process, but also do this as quickly as possible,” said Day. “We want to find the right candidate who will fit the best for our student-athletes.
“Our interview process may be a little fluid, based on the candidates we want to bring in and talk to,” he said. “We don’t have a hard-and-fast date for a hire.
“However, we want to do it as quickly as possible in order for our new coach to set up spring and summer workouts.”
The renovation to the gym recently began while the district was on spring break.
The demolition of the bleachers has been undertaken, as well as the floor and heating system.
Day said the project is currently on schedule to be completed early in the 2021 volleyball season.
It had earlier been reported the project would require the Lady Monarch volleyball team to play several away matches to begin the 2021 campaign.
