The Ohio High School Athletic Association recently announced the preliminary divisional breakdowns and regional tournament representation for the upcoming fall sports.
The OHSAA Board of Directors approved the new divisions and tournament representation during its April board meeting.
In its board meeting in February, the OHSAA announced it was increasing the number of divisions in girls volleyball, girls and boys basketball, softball and baseball.
Boys and girls soccer went from three to five divisions, while the other sports increased from four divisions to seven divisions.
The divisions are based on base enrollment data comprised of students in grades 9, 10, 11 as of October, 2023.
The data was received from the Ohio Department of Education.
In addition to football, the fall sports of soccer and girls volleyball utilize competitive balance data from the previous season to create a new adjusted enrollment count.
Only the divisions in the fall sports were announced, while the other sports will be announced at a later date.
Marysville’s fall sports remained within Division I.
Jonathan Alder, North Union, Fairbanks and Triad will have new divisions for their fall sports.
Jonathan Alder, which had been in Div. II for its fall sports, moved to Div. III in all three.
The Pioneers will be the third smallest team in Division III volleyball and 10th smallest in girls soccer in regards to enrollment figures.
Fairbanks and North Union will both be in D-V for all their fall sports.
North Union was Division II in volleyball and girls soccer, while Fairbanks was Division. III in volleyball and boys and girls soccer.
