Two local athletes recently ended their 2020-21 high school club hockey season.
Mason Sines of Fairbanks and Alex Kerr of Jonathan Alder were members of the Hilliard hockey squad.
The Wildcats placed second in the Ohio Scholastic Hockey League with a 12-4 record.
They also qualified for the club state tournament.
The area team won its first three games at the state event.
Hilliard clubbed Westerville, 7-1, and Miami by a 6-1 verdict.
The team then earned the No. 2 seed in the state final four with a 6-3 verdict over North Royalton.
The Wildcats fell to Medina, 5-2, during a final four contest.
Sines, who was named the team’s MVP for the season, was the goalie and ended the campaign with a record of 21-12-2.
He tallied 741 saves for an 89% average.
Sines also was credited with four shutouts.
Kerr played forward for the Wildcats.
He notched seven goals and 10 assists.
Kerr finished the season with 56 shots on goal.
“Mason was the backbone of our team,” said Hilliard coach Jake Trask, who is a Marysville resident. “He won a lot of games for us and kept us in many others.”
Sines, who is a sophomore at Fairbanks High School, recently completed his second season with the Hilliard team.
Kerr, who is a junior at Jonathan Alder, finished his first full season on the varsity squad.
He was a starter on Hilliard’s junior varsity team during the 2019-20 campaign and played in a handful of varsity contests.
“Alex is the heart and soul of our team,” said Trask, who finished his first season as Hilliard’s coach. “He can play anywhere in the lineup and is the type of player you trust to do the job on the ice.”
Trask said Sines and Kerr have a bright future with the program.
“They will be even bigger parts of our team with the more experience they gain.”
said the coach.
