Jack Christian poured in 34 points on Friday as Marysville’s boys varsity basketball squad edged Dublin Coffman, 80-78, in overtime.
The Monarchs, who trailed 35-29 at halftime, used a strong second half of regulation to pull to a 70-70 deadlock by the end of the fourth quarter.
MHS (4-2 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division) trailed by just a 51-49 margin by the end of the third quarter.
Christian tallied 12 of his points from beyond the three-point arc and added 14 free throws as the Monarchs defeated the Shamrocks for the first time in a number of years.
Garrett Taylor joined Christian in double figures with 23 points.
The Monarchs will return to action on Friday, Jan. 3, at Upper Arlington.

Panthers triumph
Fairbanks opened the Ohio Heritage Conference portion of its schedule on Friday by beating West Jefferson, 47-41.
The victory put the Panthers at 1-0 in the circuit.
Braylon Green and Wyatte Miller scored in double figures respectively with 16 and 11 markers.
The Riders held a 14-11 edge at the end of the first period.
After that, both teams’ offenses went cold during the next three quarters.
West Jeff took a 21-19 edge at halftime, but the Panthers rallied for a 28-26 margin going into the final period.

Wildcats notch victory
North Union’s boys are now 5-0 after Friday’s 69-52 victory over Indian Lake.
The Wildcats used 24 points in each of the second and third quarters to seal the triumph.
NU held a 13-8 lead after the first eight minutes and took a 37-21 spread at the turn.
North Union’s offense went cold during the third quarter with only eight points.
The Wildcats, though, still led 45-31 as the fourth period began.
Connor Terrill led NU with 16 points.
He was followed by Preston Crabtree and Harley Day-each with 13, Trevyn Feasel-12, Zach Vernon-11 and Owen Davis-four.

JA wins
Jack Santa-Emma poured in 29 points on Friday as the Pioneers turned back Springfield Shawnee, 55-44.
Alder jumped out to an 18-6 lead by the conclusion of the opening period and took a 31-18 margin at halftime.
Shawnee narrowed its gap to 40-33 by the end of the third set.

Cardinals struggling
Triad’s boys cage squad is still struggling as it dropped a 71-46 verdict to West Liberty-Salem on Friday.
The second quarter proved to be the problem for the Cardinals, who fell to 0-4 on the season.
The Cardinals trailed by just a 14-12 edge by the end of the opening quarter.
Triad managed only free throws by Ayden Sanford and Batai Lease during the ensuing set.
As a result, the Tigers took a 38-15 margin at halftime.
West Liberty led, 55-33, as the fourth quarter got under way,
The Cardinals will travel to Benjamin Logan on Friday.
Lease led Triad with 11 points, followed Sanford-nine, Ayden Spriggs-eight, Campbell-five, Alex Freyhof-four, Cole Pond-three, Greg Sizemore-two, Garret Talbot-two and Dillon Nott-two.
