North Union honored its senior baseball players on Tuesday prior to the Wildcats’ non-league game against Buckeye Valley.
The Barons (15-4) put some damper on the game as they defeated North Union 11-0.
The loss, however, does take away from a season that has the Wildcats (12-9) with their most wins since 2019 and in the hunt for a Central Buckeye Conference Mad River Division title.
North Union is 8-7 in the division.
Graham is at the top with a 9-5 circuit mark.
Seniors Landon Converse and Caden Potts have seen the rough times and relish the success the team has had this year.
“It means a lot,” Converse said of what the Wildcats have accomplished. “We have grown up as a group and confidence was definitely the key for us,”
“We have gone through the hardship and it has been a good achievement for us this season,” Potts said. “We had more energy and confidence.”
Joining Converse and Potts on Senior Night were Drew Schmidt, Connor Lassiter and Mason Bright.
“These seniors have taken their lumps and been through the battles,” head coach Nick Blakeley said. “I am glad they are able to have that feeling of success.”
He also felt the off-season helped get the team on the right track.
“They put in the work and believed in what they could do,” Blakeley said.
Unfortunately, the Wildcats could not do much against Buckeye Valley.
The Barons opened the game with two runs in the first inning and capped things off with a five-run sixth inning.
North Union committed seven errors and issued four walks.
The game was shortened to six innings by the run rule.
The Wildcats had only one hit, a single by Converse in the fourth inning.
