A 13-13 halftime stalemate turned into a 34-13 setback to West Jefferson as Triad’s football team ended its season Friday evening.
The Cardinals (5-5) took a 7-0 lead midway through the opening quarter on Dylan Rice’s one-yard run and Tyson Brown’s extra point.
Triad went up 13-6 during the second period when Jordan Simonelli hit Austin Bails with a 38-yard pass.
The extra point failed to hit its mark.
The Rough Riders came back and tied the game at the turn.
Things went sour for the Cardinals during the second half.
Triad lost the ball on two fumbles on kickoff returns, giving West Jefferson short fields.
The Cardinals had the pigskin for only 10 offensive plays during the second half.
The Riders tallied three touchdowns in the third quarter to take a 34-13 advantage.
West Jefferson was able to keep the ball on the ground, rushing for 354 yards, and eating huge chunks off the clock.
Triad tallied 221 total yards.
Rice rushed 14 times for 75 yards.
Simonelli completed eight-of-20 passes for 123 yards.
The Cardinals finished with their first non-losing record since 2015 when they also went 5-5.
Triad posted back-to-back 1-9 slates during the 2016 and 2017 campaigns.
