Marysville High School senior Tyler Connolly’s plans to play collegiate football at the University of Akron have been put on hold.
Connolly, a 6-6, 285-pound offensive lineman, was scheduled to sign a national letter of intent with the Zips on Wednesday.
That was the first day of the three-day early period that high school seniors could sign to play collegiate football.
Akron recently changed head coaches.
Terry Bowden, the son of Florida State coaching legend Bobby Bowden, was fired after the 2018 season in which the Zips posted a 4-8 record.
He was replaced by Tom Arth, who for the past two seasons was the head coach at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Connolly’s signing has been postponed until February as the new coaching staff evaluates all of the school’s previous verbal commitments, it was reported.
“Tyler is going to be patient in the process,” said MHS head coach Brent Johnson. “The Akron coaching staff has been in communication with him and the signing has just been put on hold.”
Connolly had a standout senior season for the 5-5 Monarchs. He graded in the high 80’s as far as blocking percentage and led the team in pancake blocks with 21.
He earned first-team honors in the Central District for Division I and was second-team in the Ohio Capital Conference Central Division.
Connolly, who was a three-year starter for the Monarchs, also earned third-team All-Ohio accolades.
