The Jonathan Alder Pioneers competed at the Hebron Lakewood Classic on Saturday.
The event gave the team’s young wrestlers some much-need varsity experience as Jonathan Alder claimed seventh place overall.
There were 12 teams entered with 155 grapplers taking to the mats.
The Pioneers covered 10 weight classes — 120, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190 and 285.
Out of the twelve teams competing, JA scored 99 team points.
Grove City claimed first place (318.5), with Bloom-Carroll taking second (231.0) and Northridge earning third (199.5).
At 120 pounds, Trenton Moodispaugh of JA took third in his class, going 3-2 on the day. He defeated Gahanna Lincoln’s Koen Larrison by a 16-5 major decision for the third-place finish.
JA’s Isaak Ricker (157) went to the finals, but lost to Grove City’s Cody Hyde by a 5-2 decision. That was his lone loss of the day.
Fellow 157-pounder Henry Sivillo took fourth in the weight-class, dropping his final bout to Chillicothe’s Gage Miller by a 9-7 decision.
At 165 pounds, JJ Bay claimed fifth by pinning Bloom-Carroll’s Tyler Harrison roughly 30 seconds into the second period.
Nick Finke (175) claimed sixth place after going 2-2 prior to his final match.
The Pioneer lost to Northridge’s Cameron Branningan by pin with 30 seconds to spare in the second period.
At 190 pounds, AJ Delong took second place in his class, losing the title bout to Bloom-Carroll’s Clay Dozer by pin in the first period.
Alder’s 285 pounder, Owen Braithwaite, finished in sixth place.
He lost his final match to Franklin Heights’ Karson Canterbury by a pin during the second period.
